The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, or ICE, is Donald Trump’s Gestapo, a secret police force tasked to detain and deport illegal immigrants…and U.S. citizens, both of whom are protected under the U.S. Constitution. They’re so secretive they have to wear masks, which if you’re a Trump supporter is good when you’re breaking the law, but bad when they’re saving lives. Most people would probably want to hide behind a mask like a coward if they were:
– abandoning children on the side of the road
– violently destroying property
– robbing U.S. citizens while forcing their children to stand in the rain in their underwear
– detaining innocent tourists
– operating flying death traps
– holding U.S. citizens in custody, despite proving they were born in America
– arresting people they know are innocent
– deporting U.S. citizens with no due process
No oversight, no problem
Immigration issues are civil, not criminal. Detentions are not meant to be punishment, but they often are. Not only is abuse against women and minorities rampant, but there have been dozens of preventable deaths, including 3 in the first two months of 2025. We would normally depend on the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Office of the Immigration Detention to provide oversight and accountability, but Trump shut them down.
Profits over people
Why are the conditions so harsh? Other than the Trump administration not seeing immigrants as human beings, over 90% of immigrants are held in for profit detention centers, funneling billions of dollars to publicly traded corporations who are motivated to keep costs as low as they can. In other words, Trump is fine with letting people of color die if it saves a few bucks, because we prioritize profits over people in America.
But running operations like private businesses is more efficient, right? Well, ICE is short $2 billion with months until their fiscal year end. Apparently the answer is to give them $45 billion more. But don’t worry, the Trump administration intends to run their human trafficking network like Amazon Prime (seriously), because Amazon is the model company for efficiently dehumanizing people.

Ultimately, the answer might be to hold the business owners accountable by enforcing existing laws against employing undocumented workers, but that won’t happen, because targeting minorities and the poor is the point. And because not only his supporters, but Trump himself would be found guilty. Fascists like Donald Trump love breaking their own laws.
