Donald Trump is directing the Attorney General to open an investigation into ActBlue, the largest Democrat fundraising platform, for accusations of unlawful activities. In other words, another fascist leader is weaponizing the federal government to target political opponents after accusing the previous administration of weaponizing the federal government to target political opponents. With fascists, accusations are often confessions.

Trump is doing this because he’s scared, and he should be. The site has collected over $400 million in the first three months of 2025, a reflection of Trump’s plummeting approval ratings as seen by the massive anti-Trump protests occurring nationwide and across the globe. And Republicans are already understandably nervous about the 2026 midterms, so taking away Democrat funding is the next step on the authoritarian checklist.

Notably, Republicans investigated ActBlue last year over similar empty allegations and found nothing – “Documents turned over revealed that as of September 2024, ActBlue has implemented updated policies to “automatically reject donations that use foreign prepaid/gift cards, domestic gift cards, are from high-risk/sanctioned countries, and have the highest level of risk as determined.” So what is this about?
